The Second Japan Tanzania Business Dialogue

- On August 15, the Embassy of Japan co-hosted the Second Japan-Tanzania Business Dialogue with the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT).
- The Dialogue was co-chaired by Ambassador Misawa and Dr. Simbachawene, Deputy Permanent Secretary of MIT, and attended by Japanese companies, JICA and relevant ministries and agencies of the Government of Tanzania, including Tanzania Revenue Authority, Immigration Bureau, TANTRADE, TBS, FCC, PCCB, TMDA, TNBC and ZIPA, etc.
- In the Dialogue, Japanese companies raised the issues in their business activities in Tanzania, such as insufficient transparency, fairness, efficiency and consistency in administrative measures including visas, permits, licenses and tax collection process, together with the necessity to take measures against corruption, fair competition in the market. In response, Relevant Ministries and Authorities of Tanzanian government provided answers and explanations, and the participants discussed follow-up measures.
- Representing the Japanese companies, Mr. Araki, Chairman of the Committee on Commerce and Industry of Japanese Society of Tanzania (CCIJT) / MD and CEO of Tanzania Cigarette Company, Mr. Asada, CEO of Baridi Baridi Inc. and Mr. Makita, Manager of WASSHA Inc. raised issues of business environment, and JICA presented its related activities. In addition, Tanzanian companies raised the challenges in businesses with Japan. Vice President Office in charge of Environment presented an overview of carbon trading system in Tanzania, in which several Japanese companies have expressed interests.
- It is expected that the continuation of the Business Dialogue, now in its second year, will lead to progress in efforts to facilitate investment and trade between the two countries, as well as mutual understanding.
