Handing-over Ceremony for the project for the Construction of a Girls’ Dormitory Block at Itona Secondary School in Mufindi District, Iringa Region
2025/9/18

1. On 18th September, a ceremony was held at Itona Secondary School to mark the handover of the dormitory provided through “the Project for the Construction of a Girls’ Dormitory Block at Itona Secondary School in Mufindi District, Iringa Region” under the scheme of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGHSP).
2. Japan granted USD 100,743 (approximately Tsh 232 million) to Mufindi District Council for the construction of a girls’ dormitory and water supply system at Itona Secondary School in order to improve the environment of the school. There was no dormitory at Itona Secondary School and most of the students are required to walk long distances to reach the school because their homes are located more than 10 kilometres away. Furthermore, because there were no dormitories for female students at the time, most of the female students in Form 4, who were required to take the national exam, had no choice but to sleep temporarily in classrooms. However, classrooms were overcrowded and did not provide an environment conductive to proper sleeping and learning, which adversely affected their examination results. This project will solve those issues and benefit 120 girl students.
The Handing-over ceremony was attended by:
・Mr. UEDA Shoichi - Chargés d'affaires ad interim of Japan in Tanzania
・Hon.Dr.Linda Selekwa–Acting Regional Commissioner of Iringa
(District Commissioner of Mufindi)
