    Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGHSP) scheme


    The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) =”KUSANONE” is a part of Official Development Assistance (ODA) to developing countries since 1989. The scheme is commonly referred to as ”KUSANONE” in Japan. ”KUSANONE” means “Grassroots” in Japanese. The Government of Japan provides support to non-profit organizations that are engaged in the social development sector in Tanzania.

    Focal areas of assistance

    The Government of Japan, through the Grant Assistance for scheme, continues to support local community and local people through the implementation of a variety of grassroots projects in response to various development needs and requests. Under the scheme, the Government of Japan focuses on the fields of the basic human needs and the humanitarian areas such as education, health and the basic infrastructures including water and electricity supply. The projects that are preferred are those which can prove to be beneficial to the majority of grassroots level people or those which can deliver a high level of contribution with small-scale funding and, in particular, projects which fulfill urgent humanitarian needs.

  • Local Government Authorities
  • Education Institutions (Primary, Secondary)
  • Hospitals and Medical Institutions
  • ※Individuals, profit organization and Central Government are not eligible


    Upper limit of assistance

    The maximum amount that can be provided for a project is 10 million Japanese Yen, which is approximately equivalent to around 200 million Tanzanian Shillings.
