Signing of the Exchange of Notes for the Japanese Grant Project “The Project for Rehabilitation of Kigoma Port”

  1. On 11th July, 2024, in Dar es Salaam, the Exchange of Notes(E/N) for the grant aid project “The Project for Rehabilitation of Kigoma Port” was signed by H.E. Mr. MISAWA Yasushi, Ambassador of Japan to the United Republic of Tanzania and Dr. Natu El-Maamry Mwamba, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance of the United Republic of Tanzania.
 
  1. The government of Japan will expand a total amount of grant up to three billion two hundred and seventy four million Japanese Yen (\3,274,000,000), approximately twenty million three hundred and ninety one thousand US dollars ($20,391,000), by adding five hundred and forty eight million Japanese Yen (\548,000,000), approximately three million four hundred and thirteen US dollars ($3,413,000) for the grant aid project “The Project for Rehabilitation of Kigoma Port” which was originally signed in 2022.
 
  1. This grant will be used to facilitate the recent growing demand for transport in the Kigoma Port and therefore, both the passenger wharf and the cargo wharf will be rehabilitated as requested by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.
 
  1. The expansion of the grant aims to address the budget shortfall caused by the fluctuation of foreign exchange rates and rising materials and transportation costs.
 
  1. This project is expected to contribute to regional integration through further logistics facilitation in East African countries.
