Handover Ceremony of a patrol boat for the Project of “Tackling illegal maritime activities” (UNDP)

1. On 21st April, in the presence of Hon. Kassim Majaliwa, Prime Minister, a handover ceremony was held at the port of Dar es Salaam for a patrol boat provided under the project of “Tackling illegal maritime activities: supporting the establishment of an operational inter-agency maritime security coordination mechanism in Tanzania” (UNDP) funded by Japan’s supplementary budget.
2. The project, for which Japan contributed USD 500,000 (approx. JPY 56 million) to UNDP, established a coordination framework among government authorities related to maritime security as well as strengthened the resilience of coastal fishing communities through the provision of fish-drying racks, in addition to the provision of the patrol boat.
3. Through the provision of the patrol boat, it is expected that the Tanzanian government's maritime surveillance and enforcement capacity will be improved, providing economic stability to coastal communities and contributing to ensure peace and stability.
