Judo Ambassador Cup 2026
On August 16, we had the Japan Ambassador’s Cup Tanzania Judo Tournament at the Don Bosco Upanga Youth Centre. Co-hosted by the Tanzania Judo Association and the Embassy of Japan, the event brought together many judo athletes from across Tanzania, including Zanzibar, for intense competition.
Attendees included Mr. Charles Maguzu from the National Sports Council; Mr. Richard Ndayirukiye, President of the Tanzania Judo Association; Mr. Tsuyoshi Shimaoka, President of the Zanzibar Judo Association; and Mr. Tomoya Shiraishi, a JICA sports expert—representatives who have long been involved in judo locally.
Ambassador Mikami expressed gratitude to those who have contributed to the promotion and development of judo and offered words of encouragement to the athletes before watching the matches.
As the first tournament on the Tanzanian mainland supported by the Embassy of Japan since the COVID-19 pandemic, the event marked a significant step forward for the further development of judo in the country.
