Signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Government of Japan and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania on the Joint Crediting Mechanism

1. On 28th May 2025, in Tokyo, a Memorandum of Cooperation on the Establishment of a Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) was signed between Mr. ASAO Keiichiro, Minister of the Environment of Japan (co-signed by Mr. MIKAMI Yoichi , Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the United Republic of Tanzania), and H.E. Mr. Hamad Yusuf MASAUNI, Minister of State, Vice President's Office (Union and Environment) of the United Republic of Tanzania.
2. Through the JCM with Tanzania, Japan will contribute to the achievement of the nationally determined contribution (NDC) of both countries by cooperating in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Tanzania, and will work toward the decarbonization of the world.

[Reference 1] Joint Credit Mechanism (JCM: Joint Crediting Mechanism)
The JCM is a mechanism that quantitatively evaluates Japan's contribution to greenhouse gas emission reductions and absorptions achieved through the diffusion of leading decarbonizing technologies and measures to developing countries and utilizes such contributions toward the achievement of Japan's NDC.
As of May 2025, JCMs have been established with 30 countries, including Mongolia, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Kenya, Maldives, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Costa Rica, Palau, Cambodia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Chile, Myanmar, Thailand, the Philippines, Senegal, Tunisia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Georgia, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan,Papua New Guinea, the
United Arab Emirates, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine, with Tanzania becoming the 30th country.
