On March 6th, 2024, right in the middle of Japan’s “Girls’ Day” on March 3rd and “International Women’s Day” on March 8th, the Embassy of Japan held a signing ceremony for three projects, which will contribute to the empowerment of women at the community level in Tanzania.
The Government of Japan agreed to extend a grant aid of up to US$ 280,068, (approximately 688 million Tshs) to the following projects under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) scheme:

1.The Project for the Construction of a Girls’ Dormitory Block at Kagera Secondary School in Missenyi District, Kagera Region: up to US$ 103,627 (approximately 255 million Tsh)

The school is the only Government Secondary School in Kyaka Ward currently, therefore the commuter area spans 4 villages. More than half of the students commute longer than 10 km to the school and some of the girls students suffered with the harassment on their way.
Due to this situation, Kyaka community proposed to build Girls’ Dormitory and the Government of Japan has decided to provide grant aid to improve the students’ environment at Kagera Secondary School.

2.The Project for the Construction of Malagosi Dispensary in Iringa district, Iringa Region: up to US$ 85,227 (approximately 209 million Tsh)

Currently people in Malagosi village are forced to go to neighbour village or ward to receive medical treatment since there is no dispensary in the village. However, traveling on rough road is risky especially for pregnant women, and miscarriages and maternal deaths have sadly occurred in the past.
Due to this situation, Malagosi Village community proposed to build the Dispensary and the Government of Japan has decided to provide grant aid to improve the access of medical treatment in Malagosi Village

3.The Project for the Construction of a Reproductive and Child Health Building at Sumve Designated District Hospital in Kwimba District, Mwanza Region: up to US$ 91,214 (approximately 224 million Tsh)

Sumve Designated District Hospital’s service areas are 4 wards and 20 villages, and patients from neighboring districts visit the hospital for medical service. However, the Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) building is dilapidated and no longer used. Thus, they are using the isolation ward for RCH temporarily. This can cause infectious diseases, and the hospital is facing difficulties to provide enough medical care due to lack of appropriate facilities.
In order to solve this issue, Sumve Designated District Hospital requested a support to construct a Reproductive and Child Health Building, and the Government of Japan has decided to provide grant aid to improve the medical environment at the hospital.
