(3) The Project for the Improvement of Sanitation Environment at the Primary Schools in West ‘A’ Municipality, Urban West Unguja Region: up to US$ 108,717
Due to the free education policy, the number of students at Chunga Primary School and Kihinani Primary School has been increasing rapidly, therefore, all of the facilities at these schools are inadequate. As the Tanzanian government places more emphasis on building classrooms, it lacks of the budget to build toilets, despite significant shortfalls. The shortage of toilets causes student performance and attendance to deteriorate, especially among menstruating girls.
The Government of Japan has decided to provide grant aid to construct 2 toilet blocks at each school.

(4) The Project for the Improvement of Sanitation Environment at Ilomba Secondary School in Mbeya City, Mbeya Region: up to US$ 76,827 (* It was signed on 20th March, 2023)
As free education policies have increased secondary school applicants, Ilomba Secondary School has nearly doubled its enrollment in the last decade. As a result, the number of existing toilets and the number of students do not match, the waiting time for toilets has got longer, and many students cannot return to the classroom on time. Therefore, there are many cases where classes do not start on time. It has also been confirmed that about 30 girls are absent from school during their period each month.
Due to this situation, the Government of Japan has decided to provide grant aid to construct 3 toilet blocks and to renovate 8 doors for existing toilet block.
