FY 2020 Supplementary Budget of the Government of Japan Assistance to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 through Collaboration with International Organizations

In Tanzania, the Government of Japan has decided to assist in the implementation of the following three projects to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in coordination with UNIDO, UNICEF, and WHO utilizing the third FY2020 Supplementary Budget of the Government of Japan.
 

1 UNIDO
(1)Title and amount
Promoting public health and social resilience against COVID-19 by strengthening the domestic supply chain of personal protective equipment (USD 675,663)
(2)Project summary
It aims at conducting an evaluation of the domestic supply chain of PPE, disinfectants, and hygiene supplies and strengthening the production of the domestic entities based on the findings.
 

2 UNICEF
(1)Title and amount
Maintenance of essential health services to vulnerable populations in the context of possible health emergencies in refugee camps and host communities, through provision of life saving equipment and supplies and Risk Communication and Community Engagement (USD 532,736)
(2)Project summary
It aims at avoiding a disruption in provision and utilization of the essential health services and enhancing RCCE and good parenting behaviours and practices in the three refugee camps and the surrounding host communities, particularly under the health emergencies.
 
3 WHO
(1)Title and amount
Protecting refugees and host communities in Kigoma region from COVID-19 and other infectious diseases (USD 62,500)
(2)Project summary
It aims at strengthening public health measures in communities, schools, and universities and early detection and reporting of infectious diseases at health facilities and points of entries.
 

The Government of Japan has continued diverse cooperation for many years while positioning health as a critical sector for TICAD. Based on its achievements, the Government of Japan is currently providing grant aid for provision of medical equipment, technical cooperation, and assistance through international organizations with the use of the first and third of supplementary budgets of 2020 in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in African nations.
 

The COVID-19 is having a widespread and significant impact on all aspects of society and economy of African nations. In view of this, the Government of Japan recognizes the importance of focusing on various challenges due to or emerged from COVID-19 in the areas of economy, society, and peace and stability in addition to the assistance aims directly at prevention of the spread of COVID-19 and of standing behind their own efforts of Africa.
