    >>Mr. Motegi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry's visit to Tanzania

    From August 9th to 10th 2013, Mr. Toshimitsu Motegi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, visited Tanzania as a follow up on the 5th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V) and to strengthen bilateral economic ties between Tanzania and Japan. Minister Motegi was accompanied by a private sector mission of around 60 people consisting of 15 enterprises and five organizations, including trading houses, manufactures, SMEs and government-affiliated organizations.


    About 200 Business persons attended the business forum.

    During the visit, Minister Motegi and representatives of the private sector missions paid a courtesy call to H.E. President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete on August 10th and also met with Hon. Prof. Sospector Muhongo, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Hon. Dr. Abdallah Kigoda, Minister of Industry and Trade, Hon. Mr. Bernard K. Membe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Dr. Harrison G. Mwakyembe, Minister for Transport, and Hon. Dr. Mary Nagu, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Investment and Economic Empowerment, where Tanzania and Japan discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation on various economic areas.

    At the above meetings, Minister Motegi announced that the interest of Japanese companies to invest in Tanzania is increasing, and in order to enhance the economic ties between Tanzania and Japan, the Japanese government will re-open the JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) Dar es Salaam Office.

    In response, on behalf of the Tanzanian Government, President Kikwete and other Cabinet Ministers expressed their appreciation for the long-term assistance by the Japanese Government, as well as high expectations for the further enhancement of economic relations through advancement of Japanese firms.
