On 28th March, 2013, the Government of Japan and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania signed the Exchange of Notes for a Japanese Grant Aid Project to the value of 76 million Japanese Yen, approximately 1,282 million Tanzanian Shillings.
The Project for Rural Water Supply in Tabora Region (Detailed Design) is worth 1,282 million Tanzanian Shillings. After this exchange of Notes, a new Exchange of Notes is expected to be signed for the well drilling and the water pipe construction.
This project is expected to benefit 20 villages in Tabora region. The number of people who will have access to clean and safe water in these areas will increase from roughly 4,200 in 2009 to an estimated 40,700 in 2020. The water supply is expected to escalate from 7.8% in 2009 to a projected 48.5% in 2020, which will be designed as four Level-2 (a piped water supply scheme serving several thousand people) and 114 Level-1 (a hand pump scheme) water supply projects.
The above grant will be extended and financed through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under the Grant Agreement signed between JICA and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.
