    Signing Ceremony of Exchange of Notes for Japanese Grant Projects

    On 17th January, 2014, the Government of Japan and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania signed the Exchange of Notes for the Japanese Grant Projects (below).

    1. The Project for Widening of New Bagamoyo Road

     This project has been implemented since 2010.This time, The Government of Japan decied to expand the total amount of grant up to five billion and ninety five million Japanese Yen (JPY 5,095,000,000), approximately seventy seven billion, eight hundred and sixty one million Tanzanian Shillings (Tsh 77,861,000,000 *rate:10th Jan 2014)

     After completion of the project, the existing Bagamoyo road will be a four-lane road and will contribute to improving the traffic conditions of the economic capital of this country.

    2. The Project for Reinforcement of Power Distribution in Dar es Salaam (Detailed Design)

     The Government of Japan will provide a grant up to thirty two million Japanese Yen (JPY 32,000,000), approximately four hundred and eighty nine million Tanzanian Shillings (Tsh 489,000,000*rate:10th Jan 2014), to the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.

    The project consists of 5 components:

    (1) Reinforcement of the Ilala substation and existing 132kV transmission line from Ilala substation to Ubungo substation,

    (2) Construction of a new Jangwani Beach substation and construction of a distribution line from Jangwani Beach substation to Tegeta substation,

    (3) Construction of Muhimbili substation and construction of a distribution line from Muhimbili substation to the City Center substation,

    (4) Construction of Mwananyamala substation and construction of a distribution line from Mwananyamala substation to Makumbusho substation,

    (5) Expansion of Msasani substation and expansion of the distribution line from Msasani substation to Makumbusho substation.

    By implementing these components, the project will greatly contribute to improving stability of the power supply in Dar es Salaam city, which will lead to further development of economic activities and improvement of social services such as schools and hospitals.
