“The Project for Improvement of Transport Capacity in Dar es Salaam (phase 2)”

On 11th November, 2013, the Government of Japan and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania signed the Exchange of Notes for the Japanese Grant Projects (below).

    1. The Project for Rural Water Supply in Tabora Region

Access to clean and safe water is one of the key factors for ensuring human security and also empowering the people toward more productive activities by freeing them from water drawing labour.

This project is expected to benefit an additional 40,000 people in 20 villages in the Tabora region by constructing a piped water supply system and deep well drilling. The grant will also be used for procurement of geophysical exploration facility and capacity development programs on management skills for public-sector and rural water management organizations.

    2. The Project for Improvement of Transport Capacity in Dar es Salaam (phase 2)

This project covers 0.3km section of Bandari Road between the Kamata and Kilwa intersections, which were initially planned to be built by the phase 1 project signed on 25th January, 2013. The traffic jams in Dar es Salaam have a negative influence on both Economic and Civil activities. By widening the road from 2 lanes to 4 lanes, this project is expected lessen the existing traffic jams in Dar es Salaam and the widened road will certainly contribute to the economic development of Tanzania and promotion of forein direct investment.
