    >>The inauguration ceremony for the rehabilitation of the substation and transmission line in Kilimanjaro region


    On 7th October, 2013, the official inauguration ceremony for the rehabilitation of the substation and transmission line in Kilimanjaro region was held in Makuyuni village, Himo-Kilimanjaro region.

    H. E. Mr. Masaki Okada, Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Gharib Bilal, Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, and Honorable Prof. Sospeter Muhongo, Minister of Energy and Minerals, have attend the ceremony.

    The Government of Japan has provided the United Republic of Tanzania with a grant of 2 billion 5 hundred million yen (approximately 40 billion 9 hundred million Tanzanian Shillings) for the purpose of contributing to the implementation of the rehabilitation of the substation and transmission line in the Kilimanjaro region.

    This project aims to improve the quality of the electricity and stabilize the provision of electricity by constructing the Makuyuni and KCMC substations, 34 kilometres of transmission line from Kiyungi substation to Makuyuni substation, and rehabilitating the YMCA and Lawati substations and 5 kilometres of transmission line from the Trade-school substation to the KCMC substation.

    In Tanzania, demand for electricity is increaseing along with the rapid growth of economy.

    In the future, it will be important for Tanzania to have a long term vision to utilize a variety of types of energy sources and utilize the current energy resource more efficiently.

    Japan is ready to assist Tanzania in formulating and realizing its future plan.
