The Inauguration Ceremony
for the Project for the Improvement of Masasi - Mangaka Road
On August 21, 2009, the inauguration ceremony for the Project for the Improvement of Masasi - Mangaka Road was held at Masasi.
H.E. Mr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, the Honourable Dr. Shukuru Kawambwa, Minister for Infrastructure Development, the Honourable Mr. William Mganga Ngeleja, Minister for Energy and Minerals, other dignitaries and Mr. Shuichiro Kawaguchi, chargé d’affaires, Embassy of Japan, attended the ceremony.
The Project for the Improvement of Masasi - Mangaka Road is expected not only to increase the economic activities around the Mtwara Development Corridor of the southern part of Tanzania, but also to improve the connection between Songea and the Mtwara - Lindi Regions. Through improving accessibility, the project will also contribute to promoting agricultural products such as cashew nuts from the southern regions to Dar es Salaam and Mtwara ports, which is expected to bring greater economic and social benefits to the people living in these regions.
